Post Doc Debrief

Had the 4 month doctor's visit today. Liam weighed in at 14 lbs 3 oz, over twice his birthweight. He unfortunately pee'd on the nurse while she was weighing him, but she wasn't too upset. I bet it happens pretty often. He's now measuring 26 inches long... I didn't catch the head size, but the doc said that all the numbers were in line with where they'd expect them to be based on his history. Doc said that everything (ears, eyes, belly, etc) looked great & the little one is probably going to be a tall boy when he grows up. He got two shots, the DTaP and the Pneumococcal, and he took em both like a champ. He has little spots of blood where the shots were given on his thighs, but other than that, he seems fine so far. We'll see over the next few days what happens... he didn't have to have the HepB this time, so maybe he won't be down like he was last time.

Had a good conversation with the doc about starting solids... the doctor basically said anytime between now and Thanksgiving would be a good time to start with rice cereal. Ideally, they want babies actually eating (which apparently will take much practice) by the 6 month visit if possible. He originally recommended waiting until Liam's eating more than I can produce & then starting the intro to solids, but I explained that my supply is way beyond what the boy eats & that we already have a freezer full of milk so he said to just use our best judgment. We need to get him used to the high chair first before we start experimenting, so we'll probably begin that piece sometime in the next couple weeks. I'm expecting this whole process to be amusing, and I'll try to capture at least some of it in pictures for your enjoyment. :)
