One year doctor's appointment

Yup, it was that time again. Today we made the dreaded visit to the pediatrician's office. It was slightly better than past visits, but not by much and I think mostly because I've had a lot of practice at tuning out the crying to get to the crux of matters recently (i.e., is he hurt from the fall that caused the crying? If so, where? Does it need treatment?).

Anyway, he's the picture of health according to the doctor. 18 lbs 13 oz (5th percentile), 31 inches long (85th percentile), 19 1/2 inch head circumference (93rd percentile). Various body parts look good, development's normal. He's definitely an early walker. The doc said the average age is 13.5 months. He got one shot, his last pneumococcal booster. Since he's walking, they give it in the arm rather than the thigh, so that he doesn't get soreness in his thigh muscle from it. He seemed to definitely prefer the arm, and he has only a pinprick dot left from it now. Doc said his last tooth of that first set of four should be coming in shortly - he could see it just below the surface. He expects it to be a corker, like the other top tooth, since this one is also coming in at a slight angle rather than straight down. Next appointment's in September. He's getting two shots then (MMR and chickenpox), and then he'll have his last shot for a while at the 18 month appointment in December.

I was just looking back at past posts & realized I haven't updated with the latest on the cow's milk issue. We've actually switched Liam to goat's milk, and it seems to be working really well for him. Its expensive ($3.70/quart @ approx 3 quarts per week), but heck, if it continues to do the job....! I've been trying to sell Andy on letting me get a milker for the back yard...

Oh, and Happy Birthday, Uncle George!
